Town Common

Mission Statement

The purpose of Turkey Hill Gardeners is to promote the education and enjoyment of gardening for members and the extended community; encourage horticulture; improve and ornament the streets and public squares of the Town of Lunenburg by planting and cultivating ornamental trees, shrubs, and/or flowers therein and otherwise improving the physical aspects of the town.

About Us

In the late 1990’s, a small group of women in Lunenburg, all enthusiastic gardeners, joined forces to establish Turkey Hill Gardeners, Inc. The Articles of Organization were submitted to the state and bylaws of the club were written. On September 8, 1999 the club was incorporated. There were seven members at that time. Today we have over 40 members and the club continues to thrive.

The gardening club generally meets on the second Wednesday of every month with the exception of December. Most meetings are held at The Drawbridge Puppet Theater on Route 2A (Find directions here). In June and July, we meet at individual member’s homes to enjoy their gardens. Occasionally, meetings are held at the Lunenburg Public Library. Annual dues of $12 enable you to participate in all club activities, receive a monthly newsletter and receive a 10% discount from Lakeview Nurseries, Dick’s Market Garden & Greenhouses, and Central Mass Garden Center. For more information, view our membership page.

Turkey Hill Gardeners has a civic beautification committee and with member participation, is responsible for the planning, planting and maintaining of the upper common in the center of town.

Other activities of the club include such guest speakers as Michelle Harvey of Lakeview Nurseries, George Leslie of The Butterfly Place, Jody Gilson of J. Gilson Greenhouses, Kate Stillman of Stillman’s Farm Stand, Paul Rogers of the Worcester Telegram and Radio Host Paul Parent of The Paul Parent Garden Club. Members also enjoy making floral crafts taught by those within the club and others.

Prior to our May meeting, we hold a perennial plant exchange. Club members bring several perennials from their own gardens to swap for other perennials. Such fun! New plants at no cost!

The primary fund raiser for the club is a plant sale held in conjunction with the Lunenburg Public Library book sale in June. Club members donate plants from their own gardens, which are sold to the community at large.
